Building Security in 2021: Addressing the Big Challenges in LA

Thursday, June 3, 2021 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) (PDT)

Description

Take part in our epic Security event, where we delve into various topics that are affecting your building operations.

Topic 1: Cybersecurity Post-COVID. While we will likely see a return to the office over the next few months, remote work options will remain available to building staff and tenants in perpetuity. How do we establishing a secure line between home and work while keeping everything cyber-safe? What are the key landmines we’ll run into?

Learning Objectives:

  • Understanding the key cybersecurity challenges with remote work.
  • Understanding new issues that have emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Implementable solutions to these challenges.

Topic 2: Handling Trespassers. Wait, I shouldn’t call 9-1-1 on all trespassers? Who do you call first? Who do you work with and for what? This session will be led by Central Division Neighborhood Prosecutor Tia S. Strozier. Tia works with multiple City agencies to address trespassing, property damage, and other issues related to managing unwanted visitors to your property. Tia will discuss her office's role and provide guidance on the proper agencies to call for various issues.  A directory of resources will be provided to all attendees.

Learning objectives:

  • Differentiating between different types of trespassing incidents.
  • Understanding who your resources are and who to call for a particular type of incident.

Topic 3: How to Pivot Your Security Operations This session will outline ways to strategically deploy your team and make improvements to be more preventative. It will address managing security in an empty building and adjustments to make tenants slowly flow back in over the coming months.

Learning objectives:

  • How to deploy your team to be more proactive in preventing security threats rather than addressing them on the spot.
  • How to adjust your operations as tenants slowly return.
  • How to continue to manage an empty building – especially if you foresee it taking longer for your tenants to return.

Speakers:

Tia Stozier, Neighborhood Prosecutor, Central Division Los Angeles City
Bill Stennis, Director of Security, Brookfield Los Angeles
Mike Lettman, Cyber Security Advisor (CSA) with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, U.S. Department of Homeland Security
